Biden garners more Republican endorsements, this time from ex-governors

Yet one more group of Republicans has committed support for Joe Biden, per a Reuters article by Tim Reid called “Biden garners more Republican endorsements, this time from ex-governors.” Here are the first three paragraphs:

“Nearly 100 Republican and independent leaders will endorse Democrat Joe Biden for president on Thursday, including one-time 2020 Republican presidential candidate Bill Weld and the former Republican governors of Michigan and New Jersey, people involved in the effort told Reuters.

The latest Republican-led effort to oppose the re-election of President Donald Trump also includes current and former Republicans in the key battleground state of Michigan that will help decide the outcome of the Nov. 3 election, the group’s members said.

Called ‘Republicans and Independents for Biden’, the group is headed by Christine Todd Whitman, a former Republican governor of New Jersey who has become one of Trump’s fiercest critics and who spoke at the recent Democratic National Convention in support of Biden.”

Trump supporters need to know that the number of Republican groups and former national security groups that support Biden continues to grow. Top of mind, The Lincoln Project, Republicans for the Rule of Law, Former National Security Officials for Biden and Republicans Voters against Trump are just four of the groups.

I also learned per The Military Times, a survey of members of the military rate Trump more unfavorably than favorably by 12 points and favor Biden by 4 points over Trump. And, this is before the corroborated story (by four news agencies including Fox News) of Trump calling soldiers MIA and KIA “losers and suckers.”

What may also be a surprise is an Alternate Republican Convention against the reelection of Donald Trump occurred in Charlotte at the same time the national RNC occurred. Why is that? I would love to hear Trump followers respond, as it is not just Democrats and left-leaning independents that do not want Trump elected. Trump, of course, has called these folks “losers” and “just-Trump haters.” Yet, it takes a lot of courage to stand up against such a vindictive person, especially in your own party.

  1. Keith, these endorsements help because it gives some who aren’t exactly Biden fans, or Democratic fans, the cover to head to the Biden camp and not feel bad about it.
My best buddy is a moderate Republican. He said if he were to vote on just the aspect of the two men side by side, he’d clearly vote for Biden. But, he told me he’s worried about the far left…Pelosi..AOC…Bernie…etc… who will influence him. I merely told him that Biden is his own man. That he’ll bring the country together. He’ll bring us calm. He’ll work with the other side, yet cannot ignore all of the left in his own party. He’ll try to govern for all of America. I do believe that.
When I talk to him next, I’m going to remind him of exactly what your post is about. He actually wrote in John Kasich in 2016 because he couldn’t stand Trump or Hillary. He lives in NY so his vote didn’t really mean much. But, again, Kasich himself has endorsed Biden. So there’s another reason for him to feel safe voting for him. I’m still trying to convince him!!

      • Jeff, my favorite line of Kasich as to why Ohio expanded Medicaid. He said it was a “no brainer” as it would bring $13 billion to the state. No politics. Just a good economics decision. Keith

  2. I think that in a completely fair and honest election, Trump would be sent packing with his tail between his legs and his head hung low. However, we have much cheating and lying to counteract, so all of these endorsements by republicans are MUCH NEEDED! It speaks volumes, I think, when so many in your own party, lifelong Republicans, cannot abide you.

  3. Jill is exactly right… in a fair and honest election – especially one that actually counts votes rather than the electoral college – Trump would be sent back to the swamp he crawled out of. Let us work to create a landslide so even the senate republicans turn their backs on him.

    • If the 2016 election had counted votes rather than the Electoral College, we wouldn’t even be in this mess now.

I don’t expect to see any Trumpanzees comment here, and most of them are probably only vaguely aware of Republicans endorsing Biden. They’re a hothouse plant that can thrive only in their own fever-swamp environment. They can’t stand exposure to cold reality.

      • Infidel753, you hit the key reason I am highlighting Republicans supporting Biden. Trump supporters likely do not know in the numbers they should. Too many get their news from poor sources, including from the president. Keith
