Oh, Senator Lindsey Graham. You still think you are above the law, just like the former president for whom you keep white washing away his sins and crimes. This is highly disappointing, especially for an attorney who served in the military. So, you should know better as you technically have sworn the same oath to protect our constitution on three occasions.
For those who are not keeping up, Senator Graham had twice asked the courts to not require him to testify in the former president’s election meddling case in Georgia. Two judges have said no to his requests. Now, he is asking the Supreme Court to allow him to blow off a subpoena. If you have even only a small dose of skepticism, you have to ask why is he so adamant to not testify? Call me crazy, but I think he does not want to have to perjure himself and he is not to keen on the truth coming out.
My guess is SCOTUS will say get your hind-end into court. They know the horrible precedent it would put in place if a Senator, who flip flops with the most alive fish in a hot metal boat, was able to thumb his nose at a court subpoena. No elected official is above the law. That includes senators and it includes presidents. Full stop.
I left the Senator yet one more message sharing my disappointment that he is trying to avoid testifying. I shared that he knows better given his background. And, we must get at the truth. From where I sit, the former president has already been charged in a civil lawsuit for fraudulent dealings at his companies and it may lead to a criminal indictment. He also faces three other indictments for the Georgia election meddling case, the seditious actions leading up to and during the January 6 insurrection and the taking of classified documents to a very unsecure and previously breached site.
These are not witch hunts. In fact, the former president tried to settle the civil lawsuit, but the New York Attorney General declined to do so. Why? Her case is strong. So, Mr. Graham, please honor a subpoena as you would expect folks you used to subpoena as an attorney. That is how it works.
The bad, covering for each other, with, no sense of any morality left, that, is what politics, all around the world came to…
Well said. What frustrates me is supporters buy into this BS, rationalizing behavior they would frown on if their kids did it.
I feel like he has built so many traps for himself – no wonder he wants to stay away from justice
VJ, I agree. Graham chose to lay down with a known wolf, who he once called an a**hole, and felt he could avoid getting fleas. Mixing metaphors, there is lengthy list of folks who ruined their reputation flying too close to the Trump sun. Keith
The phrase “methinks thou dost protest too much” comes to mind when I hear of Lindsey or some others refusing to testify. I feel the same about the likes of Michael Flynn and others who sit for hours, under oath, and say nothing more than “I plead the fifth”. Refusing to testify on the grounds that one might incriminate oneself is, in my book, an admission of guilt. Like you, I think the Supreme Court will deny his request, but … with the current Court makeup one can never be sure.
Jill, Graham does indeed protest too much. He has been so disappointing to me going from McCain friend to Trump sycophant. McCain had integrity. Trump could not be so described, in my view. Flynn was the one guy Obama told Trump not to hire which was echoed by Trump’s own people. He did so, then had to fire him later. Then, Flynn pleaded guilty to a lesser crime of lying to the FBI to turn evidence on Trump. Which is strange why anyone trusts him. Keith
There are so many within Trump’s axis who are despicable creatures … Graham, Bannon, Flynn, Stone, the Fox opinionists, Gaetz, Greene, Boebert, Gohmert, Gosar … the list is long and depressing. But Graham takes the cake, for I once thought of him as a good man, even though I didn’t often agree with him. Now I know better.
Jill, it is interesting that such a lengthy list of names exists, which is only a sample, of people of dubious character who are attracted to a person of such dubious character. When Roger Stone defines himself as a “dirty trickster,” he is telling the world “do not trust me.” And, he is a friend of both Trump and the now deceased Fox News creator Roger Ailes. Keith
A consensus of grown-ups who are true patriots and hard nosed is required.
I can dream can’t I?
Roger, it is a dream I have as well. Keith
Reblogged this on Filosofa's Word and commented:
Good ol’ Lindsey Graham … the man who stabbed his ‘best friend’ John McCain in the back. The man who long ago forgot the meaning of that Oath of Office he swore to uphold. Our friend Keith sums up his latest perfidy pretty well … thank you, Keith!
Jill, thanks for the reblog. I encourage folks to call the Senator and let him know how you feel. Keith
Am I the only one who believes that if you have nothing to hide, then trying to run away from subpoenas, creating delays, inventing run-arounds, and stating flat-out LIES wouldn’t be necessary … ??? 🙄
Nan, move to the head of the class. I have an old friend who says when you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember as much. My friend would likely show up if subpoenaed. Keith
Note to Readers: Seeing Nan’s comment, I am reminded of an attorney who deposed Donald Trump and said he corrected thirty misstatements made by Trump in one deposition. Again, if you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember as much.
Note to Readers II: What should not be viewed as ironic is Steve Bannon being sentenced to four months in prison for his ignoring a subpoena to the House Select Committee at the same time Lindsey Graham is trying to get some legal entity to give him a hall pass. Quite simply, people who have laid down with a wolf will get fleas. These fleas usually find people who don’t mind get into bed with a wolf meaning they are kind of feral canine like themselves.
Dear Keith,
The likes of Trump and Graham are morally bankrupt to their very core.
Yours sincerely,
SoundEagle
Soundeagle, I will not argue with your assessment. Keith
PS – Justice Clarence Thomas has granted a temporary relief to Lindsey Graham. Granted it’s only temporary, but is highly disappointing. To me, it shows yet again how politicized Thomas and his wife have become. That is unfortunate. Keith
The sad situations are going on, and now we can see the corruption of politicans worldwide. ;-/ Let’s hope all will go well, with the MidTerms! Best wishes, Michael
Michael, people with nothing to hide tend not to fight subpoenas. Why questions need to be asked. Keith
That’s true, Keith! Have a nice week! xx Michael
Many thanks.
Note to Readers III: Mark Meadows, former Chief of Staff to Donald Trump, has to be forced by a judge to testify in the Georgia election meddling case against Trump. This is the same case that Senator Lindsay Graham has been doing his darnedest to not testify in after being ordered twice. Graham, who obviously does not want to face the music under oath, has gotten a temporary stay from Justice Clarence Thomas.
On a positive note, one of the January 6 insurrectionists was sentenced to 7 1/2 years for dragging and harming a Capitol police officer. We cannot have this happen ever again and folks like Graham and Meadows are covering for its instigator in my view.
