One requirement for president – be an adult

The governor of Florida has a documented history of bullying and making mountains out of molehills. Yet, his latest statement has probably ended his floundering presidential campaign. He said, if elected, he would “slit people’s throats” meaning he will do wholesale terminations. His reference has hit with a thud. I am trying to figure out on what planet does that reference play well?

But, he is not alone. He is mimicking the false bravado of the former president, who has played the bully for much longer. Just yesterday, the former president threatened to go after anyone who he believes is responsible for his many legal woes. He has used references such as “cracking a few heads” to portray how tough he is. A Congressman noted he once saw on Trump’s desk a list of Republicans who did not vote the way he wanted. It shows precisely how vindictive a person he is.

To be frank, there are many policy, legal and personality reasons not to vote for either of these candidates, but one thing that is critical for a president – act like an adult and not a toddler. I have said often, real adults are accountable and responsible for their actions. These are words that I would not use to describe either candidate.

Trump blames everyone else but the one guy who is the constant in all his equations – the guy who looks back from the mirror when he shaves. DeSantis does not take criticism very well at all. And, with all of the issues he needs to focus on, he picks fights that are not that important, often exaggerating issues. If DeSantis was on the Titanic, he would punch musicians for playing music while the ship sank. Of course, Trump would be taking a seat on the life boat earmarked for women and children.

  1. I keep looking at all the people who supported him who he has thrown under the bus. The man has NO loyalty to anyone except himself. And it’s so OBVIOUS. I don’t get how come no one seems to see it.

    • Marilyn, thanks. Starting with your last comment, it is painfully obvious. One of my favorite quotes from an attorney who worked for him is paraphrased as if you are on Trump’s good side, don’t get used to it, as you will not be there for long. In other words, you cannot genuflect low enough or jump high enough for Trump at all times. Keith

  2. I think a lot of jaws dropped when DeSantis made that statement … I know mine did! I hear the USPS is up in arms over it. I keep asking myself how the GOP can sit by and continue supporting these two ‘men’ who have the mentality of a two-year-old child? I love your reference to the Titanic!

    • Thanks Jill. I think if someone said they still supported one of these two, a version of this title as a response would get a key message across. Plus, the contradictions abound with these two. Keith

  3. Note to Readers: One of the better books about the Trump White House is by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Bob Woodward called “Fear.” It is based on about 750 hours of recorded interviews. The title is appropriate as Trump uses fear to control people. As a result, the more competent people do not work for him or stay only a short while. Those who stay walk on egg shells around him so as not to enrage their “mercurial” boss.

  4. I did like your reference to the Titanic, yes that would be Trump’s style, someone might have to explain to DeSantis what an iceberg is. Do you think if Taylor-Greene was on board she’d be in denial and screaming at the Captain for spreading rumours just so he could impose a socialist rule?

I can accept in a realpolitik mood the not-very-nice somewhat ruthless manipulative character who runs the show by stealth and astute balancing one group against another in order to get their intelligently crafted ideas for a stable and productive nation.
But this gaggle of immature, irresponsible inadequate playing for ‘tips’ and applause from their favourite audiences?????
Honest to goodness it is enough to cause the Ghost of George Herbert Walker Bush to rise from his rest and stalk the convention halls.

    • Roger, I like your reference to “playing for tips.” Putting grandstanders on the Titanic would have meant more dying than did. It was bad enough that some of the folks were slow to move toward the boats. Keith

      • The whole circumstance surrounding The Titanic still resonates doesn’t it Keith?
        Particularly in politics.
Though Trump would not have the dignity to go down with the ship.

      • Roger, it does. He would be the person who urged the captain to go faster who ended up in the lifeboat, at least in the movie with Kate Winslet. Keith

  5. Note to Readers II: I saw today where Ron DeSantis is changing campaign managers as he is doing so poorly in the 2024 GOP Presidential campaign. He is changing the wrong dude. He needs to change the campaigner. He is wasting a lot of time and money. Of course, I did see he is having Florida teachers teach summaries of Shakespeare because it is too raunchy. And, he wonders why he is behind.
