Former Trump Homeland Security official says country less secure under Trump

Yet one more former Trump official has expressed his concern over negative impact of the president’s tenure. In a Reuters article by Moira Warburton called “Official says U.S. ‘less secure’ due to president’s actions, endorses Biden,” the followong paragraphs can be found.

“Miles Taylor, who served at the Department of Homeland Security between 2017 and 2019, including as chief of staff, said he ‘witnessed the damning results firsthand’ of what he called President Donald Trump’s ‘personal deficiencies.’

‘I can attest that the country is less secure as a direct result of the president’s actions,’ Taylor wrote in an op-ed published in the Washington Post on the day the Democrats kick off a four-day virtual convention to nominate Biden.

‘Today the nation has fewer friends and stronger enemies than when Trump took office.'”

These are indicting words from someone who was in the middle of things. My guess is the president will say he does not know him. The key is Taylor knows him. And, Taylor’s words are in keeping with other former officials’ concerns over our weakened global position. For what it is worth, I fully agree with Taylor’s concerns – we are less trusted as a nation, as our president is untrustworthy.

How many former officials must it take to get the people who need hear this to notice?

    • Janis, so true. It is very interesting and alarming the GOP led Senate Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee issued a more condemning report on Russia’s involvement with the Trump campaign in 2016. It cited a Russian operative working closely with Paul Manafort. I am sure attempts to condemn the report by Trump sycophants will be in full force. Keith

  1. Your guess was correct, Keith. Trump said he didn’t know him, whereupon Taylor (or somebody) produced a photo of them together in the Oval Office.

His words were more terrifying to me than many others’.

    • Annie, thanks, but it was not a hard prediction. Name calling, denigrating and distancing are three commonly used tools of the president. Not just with Trump, but it amazes me how politicians do not realize their comments are and actions are recorded. Keith

  2. The followers will delude themselves that Trump is saying exactly what they want to hear, even if he doesn’t say it.
If he looses this election they will scream foul and make life miserable for everyone else.
It is a sad state of affairs that Consensus has died through the toxic rantings of hypocritical self-styled evangelists, snake-oil talk show creatures, opportunists of all sorts and of course the conspiracy crowd.

    • Roger, Franklin Graham told his followers that God wants Trump to win to finish his work. What he did not say is Trump has done more to damage Christianity than any atheist ever could. If he is the paragon, then I must be reading a different bible. Keith

      • It’s folk such as these who make like difficult for Christians in the UK who have to deal with their mirror images amongst atheists- they just love to quote this sort of stuff, as if we are all of the same mould

      • True. I have said several times, Franklin Graham does a disservice to all the good his Samaritan’s Purse does when he says political things. His father was embarassed by Richard Nixon’s tapes, so he chose to no longer be political. Keith

  3. Your last sentence says it all: how many more people have to tell us before we listen? I used to think people who referred to his base as a ‘cult’ were over-dramatizing, but not any more. They truly are cult-like in their adoration and their inability or unwillingness to see the truth.
