Another mid-week has arrived. I thought I would use the hump day milestone to offer some miscellaneous comments. In no particular order:
-have you ever noticed the hamburger or chicken sandwich you pull out of the fast food wrapper looks very little like the one advertised on TV, online or in flyers?
-have you noticed with the success of Popeye’s chicken sandwich, more fast food place seem to now have a chicken sandwich, with a piece of chicken that has to be on steroids?
-speaking of food larger than it should be, one of the jobs my brother-in-law used to have was measuring the enlarged size of fruits and vegetables that grew near a nuclear energy site.
-speaking of energy, setting aside the climate change need to move to renewables, don’t you think we should pursue energy that won’t harm us when it spills? When a wind mill crashes in the sea, the only thing you hear is a splash. One of the big cost savers from renewables is not having to spend money to clean up messes or pay litigation costs when people are harmed.
-it is exciting to see the new electric powered Ford 150 pick-up truck following on the electric Mustang fleet; American car makers need to move forward with these investments to compete with foreign automakers.
-speaking of cars, one way to save money and improve your health is walk to places close to home taking a cloth bag for shopping. Also, a high percentage of car accidents happen close to home, so that risk is lessened, especially in today’s cell phone age.
The less we drive, the better it is for our planet. We benefit here as I have a shopping center within a mile and a half of my house in one direction, a small grocer within a half-mile and another smaller mall within two miles. My favorite use is to drop my car at the service place and walk home to wait and back when it is ready
That is all for now. Happy rest of your week.
Your mind bounces almost as much as mine does! All good musings … I don’t eat fast food anymore … it lost its appeal several years ago, but I have noticed that all the fast food places now advertise a fat chicken sandwich. Something to be said for that — I could get two, maybe three meals out of one. And yes, I fully agree with you about the electric cars and also about walking where you can. My grocery is only about a mile, but I don’t walk there because I only go once a week, and couldn’t carry a week’s worth of groceries home. However, that’s the only time during the week that my car is moved! A lady across the street annoys me because she drives her trash to the dumpster at the end of the street … maybe 30 steps walking distance! Have a good rest-of-the-week, my friend!
Thanks Jill. I call this one progressive ramblings. I kept adding a paragraph based on the previous one. One thing about using one or two bags to shop with, you don’t over buy or buy big items. Keith
So true!!!
Wow, all thought-provoking inputs and some with facts that make you shake your head. Our community is amazing.
Thanks Erika. Some were less thought provoking than others.
LOL!
Note to Readers: Like Jill, we do not eat at fast food restaurants very often. But, when we do it is interesting to read the calorie content noted by each meal. An adult man should get about 2,500 calories a day in nourishment. Some of these meals will be at 1,800 calories by themselves. When you think an adult woman should get 2,000 calories a day, then the problem is worse.
The pictures of Big Macs always make me laugh the most. The patties always look so full, the same width as the bun. But when you get a real Big Mac, the patties are near nonexistent.
Ang, so true. And, what we consumers did not fully realize is we were paying for bread. Keith
Ummm… the Tesla car is an American car…. and it is light years ahead of Ford. Ford is about 7 years behind in all the related technology, not least of which is recharging capability versus mileage. And let us not forget that it was GM that pulled the plug on the electric car back in the early 2000s as it was beginning to take off with the public (Tom Hanks was a huge fan) with a complete recall and destruction of all of them. (Wouldn’t want to interfere with oil profits). So, against all odds and constant financial attack (short selling) and constant and intentional unfair trade practices leveled against it by local, state, and federal governments, Tesla has become the benchmark car company in spite of its constant challenges and setbacks. But Tesla itself is not a car company; it’s an energy information and integration company. Cars and trucks and other means of transportation are just one branch of this far-seeing company. Ford and GM have only themselves to blame for their arbitrary decision to make products to support and subsidize the oil and gas industry. Americans by and large have been fooled into thinking these carbon burners are a patriotic symbol and their makers the heart and soul of US manufacturing. The truth is that they are the drug addict we keep trying to put into rehab.
You are on the money about GM failing to seize an opportunity and shredding the EV-1s, even though their leasees offered to buy them. The Board even questioned management on their decision. And, Tesla is a battery storage company that makes a good car. Many Americans do not realize a large part of Australia is powered with solar panels along with Tesla battery storage. Thanks for sharing these details. Keith
“one of the jobs my brother-in-law used to have was measuring the enlarged size of fruits and vegetables that grew near a nuclear energy site.” Wow! Just… wow. Did it truly get larger than life?
Betsy, he said he came across some unusually large wild berries and veggies that you dare not eat. Keith
Yikes. That’s a shame.
Betsy, they may have won Blue Ribbons at the fair, but that is all. I always wondered what those huge fair prize winning pumpkins and veggies tasted like, Did they grow past their best taste? Keith
caught red handed in the fast food spots. lol. double yoga tonight for you… 🤣 it’s amazing the calorie content. thanks for the laughs Keith❣️
Cindy, you caught me. We usually avoid these places, but decided to get a chicken sandwich. So, yes, more yoga, a few more laps in the pool. Keith
Enjoyed your miscellaneous comments…food for thought!
Thanks Peg. Some food like what I noted, though, should be avoided.
Definitely!
I love my EV and can’t imagine ever going back to a gas-powered vehicle. I hope as more people experience the joys of driving on sunshine, they will never go back.
Janis, very cool. Remind me of what you have? Keith
